INEC's New Secretary Assumes Office

 Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, Thursday sworn in the first female Secretary of the commission, Mrs Augusta Chinwe Ogakwu, replacing Mallam Abdullahi A. Kaugama who has retired. Speaking at the brief ceremony in Abuja, Jega commended Ogakwu for the manner she performed previous assignments as Director Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Director Legal Services respectively. He said her appointment was coming at a time the commission was restructuring and repositioning for more efficient conduct of electoral duties ahead of the 2015 general election. Ogakwu, whose inauguration coincided with her birthday, pledged to do her best to uphold the dignity of her new office and solicited for full support from the her colleagues to perform her duties well. The new INEC secretary and the boss of The Electoral Institute (TEI), Professor Abubakar Momoh, are to resume duty today. Kaugama, in his brief remark, urged the INEC staff to give his successor maximum support for her to succeed in her assignment.
